I picked these up after my La Sportiva Nagos gave out, and I absolutely LOVE them. Tc Pro’s and Astroman just didn’t feel right on my foot, and that’s when I found the Altura Wide. No other climbing shoe has ever fit so well. If other brands have always felt too narrow while still leaving room in the ankle or toe box, this shoe is the solution. I’ve never felt so solid toejamming in my life. Would absolutely 100% recommend,

I bought these as a stiff high-top shoe for wide cracks. For anything fists or larger, these shoes are fantastic, providing excellent support and ankle protection. At first, the shoe was very stiff and had a slight hot spot behind my pinky toe despite being sized street shoe size with my toes flat.
The stiffness of these shoes provided excellent edging on the large, coarse Sherman granite crystals of Vedauwoo. However, when I tried standing on small granite edges on a 65* day, the ridiculously soft rubber would creep off the edges. I threw these in my closet and for a while used them only for wide cracks (they were great for Road Warrior on Mount Evans) until I recently tried them at the gym. The same soft rubber that is pretty craptacular outside is pretty decent on greasy gym holds, and I can edge almost as well as in my Scarpa Boostics albeit with flat-toed comfort. I would really like to reiterate how much I dislike this rubber overall. It is the reason I give this shoe 4 instead of 5 stars. I can’t think of a performance rubber that I wouldn’t prefer to have rather than the shitty Butora rubber, even Vibram XSEdge (my least favorite). These things are stiffer than TC Pros and that stiffness continues throughout the forefoot. I am currently using these as gym shoes until the crappy rubber wears out. I will resole at R&R with some Stealth Onyxx and expect to have an excellent wide crack and thin face shoe with a suitable rubber.
Another point of interest is that the blunt toe profile of these shoes is rather lacking for thin cracks. I haven’t been able to get as much of my foot in as I prefer below #3 camalot with a 42.5 (9.5 US) size shoe, but that is coming from mocs, which I can stuff into just about any crack.
Overall, this is a great, stiff edging and wide crack shoe that gets comfier after a rather long break-in period. Definitely a good option if TC pros don’t fit you right. The heels on these are lower volume than TC pro heels, and the forefoot is a little wider on the wide fit model.
